  •  The mission of PianoArts is to develop innovative ways to foster appreciation and performance of classical music by identifying and training a new generation of pianists with exceptional musical and verbal communication skills and by presenting them to diverse audiences.


February 3, 2012 : Application Postmark Deadline

  • Application packet with $100 non refundable personal check, or international money order payable to PianoArts, or Paypal. (See application for more information.)

February 24, 2012: DVD Preliminary Round Submission Postmark Deadline

DVD recording will include:

  1. Solo of the contestant's choice -- entire work or movement(s)
  2. First movement of the selected concerto (See application for information on preparing the DVD.)

Early March: Invitation to Participate in Semifinal & Final Rounds

  • Up to 12 contestants will be invited to participate in the semifinal rounds, master

classes and collaborative performances with MSO musicians

  • One alternate will be invited to audit the competition and perform in a master class given by one of the judges

Early April

  • The teacher of each contestant will receive written comments on the contestant’s performance.

April 27

  • Approval for changes in repertory must be completed. After submitting the application, contestants cannot change lithe concerto.


June 7-8

  • Registration: $250 due for semifinalists and auditor(s)
  • Rehearsals with musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, workshops,

and master classes on speaking to audiences about music

  • Recital by a PianoArts competition winner from a previous year

June 9

  • Solo Semifinal Recitals

June 10

  • Rehearsals for Collaborative Semifinal Recitals

June 11

  • Collaborative Semifinal Recitals
  • Three semifinalists will be advanced to the finals

June 12:

  • "Working with Conductors" seminar and private sessions
  • "Panel discussions with professional musicians and managers: "Auditioning for Managers," Working with Managers,"and "Careers in Music"
  • Master class for Milwaukee area pianists
  • Rehearsals for performances on June 9
  • Outreach concerts
  • Rehearsals for June 13

June 13:

  • Semifinalists' one-on-one evaluations with members of the jury
  • Rehearsals with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
  • "Piano Promenades," recital by semifinalists
  • Final Round & Awards Concert - finalists perform all movements of a
    concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
  • Awards Ceremony

June 14

  • Finalists' one-on-one evaluations with members of the jury
  • Contestants must remain in Milwaukee until 12:00 noon
