Volunteer State Dance Competition Held In Nashville.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Material used should be based on the N.D.C.A. syllabus, Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray social step list, or any approved syllabi of member organizations
of the N.D.C.A.
2. Following categories pertain to Pro/Am and Amateur American Free Styles only:
Newcomers (1st Time Only) 1 through 5 Pre Silver 1 through 5
Pre Bronze 1 through 5 Intermediate Silver 1 through 8
Intermediate Bronze 1 through 8 Full Silver 1 through 10
Full Bronze 1 through 10 Intermediate Gold 1 through 8
Gold 1 through 10
Advanced Gold Bar and Gold Star
Following categories pertain to Pro/Am and Amateur International Free Styles only:
Pre Bronze thru Closed Gold - any approved syllabi of member organizations of the N.D.C.A.
Open Gold and Advanced - there are no restrictions other than the use of lifts.
Closed Championships and Closed Scholarships are restricted to Bronze and Silver Students Only,
Students may dance in only One Closed Scholarship ( Bronze or Silver) in the American Style, It must be in the Highest level in which they
entered, Example: If the student enters the Levels Full Bronze and Pre Silver the student may enter the Silver Closed Scholarship Only. Material

Student dancing in the Silver Closed Scholarship may dance in the open Scholarship in the same style.
Scholarship Qualifications: In order to compete in Scholarships you must dance in the same dances in the freestyles either closed or open.
3. Pro/Am & Student/Student Age Divisions- you may enter in Two age divisions:
Pre-teen 12 and under B1 51-60
Junior 13-15 B2 61-70
A1 16-35 C1 71-80
A2 36-50 C2 81+
4. LEVEL OF DANCE in American and International Style- Pro/Am or Amateur Couples
You may dance up to three levels in the closed freestyles and two levels in the open one-dance championships. The levels must be in consecutive order;
you may not skip a level. Example: Int. Bronze, Full Bronze, and Pre-Silver.
5. Newcomer level free-style - open to students who have never competed in any type of a
Ballroom competition. A student may not enter this category more than once,
6. No continuity style in Bronze.
7. AMERICAN STYLE DRESS CODE Pro/Am and INTERNATIONAL STYLE DRESS CODE
Pro/Am - costumes are permitted at any levels.
8. In any category with fewer than three entries, the organizer reserves the right to eliminate the age and sex divisions and merge competitors into one open
division.
9. Solo exhibitions critique sheets and scores will be available to studio personnel on Sunday at the registration desk.
10. Formations: maximum time limited to three (3) minutes for a single dance and four (4) minutes for a medley. Timing of routine shall begin and end with
the accompaniment. Teams must consist of at least four (4) couples.
11. Maximum of TWO Solo Exhibitions per student will be accepted.
12. No Solo Exhibition is to exceed three (3) minutes. Music will be faded out after (3) minutes. Music must be on cassettes.
13. Two teachers dancing with one student are entered as a regular exhibition.
14. Two amateurs dancing together can have two entries on Solo Exhibition plus the two in Pro-Am.
15. Drops are permitted in levels Gold and Advanced Pro-Am free style only. Drops are permitted in all levels of Solo Exhibitions.
16. Lifts are permitted in all Solo Categories.
17. PROFESSIONAL SHOWDANCE CHAMPIONSHIPCouples
will be judged performing a solo routine of their own choice, not to exceed four minutes, including walk-on and walk-off music. Therefore, all
competitors entering this event must come prepared with their own special music on CD or Cassette.
19. Cancellation/Refund Policy:
Cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the event will receive a refund within 30 days after the event.
Absolutely NO REFUNDS at the event.
**There are no refunds or exchanges on general admission tickets.
20. A panel of investigators will be used for all restricted categories. These categories will be strictly supervised and competitors committing infraction will
be warned once then disqualified.
21. Pro/Am Senior 3 Dance- to qualify you have to be 60 years old or over.
22. No responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in changing rooms, ballroom, or hotel rooms can be accepted by The organizer or the N.D.C.A., neither
can they be held liable for injury sustained by persons attending the Volunteer State Dance Challenge. Everyone does so at his or her own risk.
23. Everyone attending this event, whether as spectators or as Officials or as Competitors or guests of the Organizer, shall be bound by N.D.C.A. rules, and
by participating in the Volunteer State Dance Challenge automatically become obliged to adhere to them.
24. Professionals competing in any capacity must be currently registered with the N.D.C.A. and supply the Organizers with an official registration number on
our entry forms. All amateur couples who are dancing must be currently registered with U.S.A.B.D.A. and supply the Organizers with an official
